Nana's Curry Powder

A rich, earthy blend of spices.

Nana's Curry Powder

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 tbsp spanish paprika

  • 1/4 tsp turmeric, powder

  • 1/2 tsp cumin, ground

  • 2 tbsp coriander powder

  • 1 tbsp kashmiri chili powder

DIRECTIONS
  1. Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl until well very combined.

  2. Transfer to airtight container for storage. Keep away from direct sunlight.

TIPS
  • Whole Spices. you can use whole dried spices and process them in a spice grinder or use a mortar and pestle - this will give you a more fresh, fragrant curry powder.

  • Make it Fancy. If you’re feeling RICH ($$$) use a 1/4 tsp of saffron powder OR just a few ground saffron and some turmeric powder

BACKGROUND

This curry powder is delicious in my nana’s chicken curry but is also wonderful when used with seafood - like shrimp! My Nana was born in Tanzania but her family originally comes from Goa. This blend takes on influences from both cultures and has been adapted by my dad.
